Choosing a long term or short term care option for an elderly loved one is a big step for your family. You want to make sure that your loved one is in a safe place, where they will receive the care that they need and the respect that they deserve. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees, but learning as much as you can about a facility before choosing it can make a difference.

Whitney Rehabilitation Care Center is a long term and short term care facility located in Hamden, Connecticut. You can learn more about the good and the bad of this facility here.

Be Aware of Violations

While the Whitney Rehabilitation Care Center has many pros, it also has drawbacks that you need to be aware of. One drawback to consider is a 2017 violation. In the fall of 2016, a resident was not given proper assistance in their bed mobility. This resident’s care plan stated that the resident needed assistance getting in and out of bed, with bed mobility, and with basic tasks such as washing and bathing.

One morning, a CNA was assisting the resident. When they walked away for a few minutes, the resident fell out of their bed and onto the floor. This resulted in a neck fracture as well as shoulder issues.

The CNA noted that the resident seemed “loopy” the morning of the accident. This behavioral change should have been noted immediately, and the CNA should have gotten assistance as soon as possible to avoid an issue.

This situation resulted in a class B violation of the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies Section 19a-527-1 (b)(8). This violation carries a $1,950 fine.
