Issues With the Home

Despite the perks offered at the Watrous Nursing Home, there are drawbacks as well. A 2018 inspection indicated an issue with the home that it received a violation for.

In 2017 and 2018, a resident who had seizures was put on an anti-seizure medication. After 30 days, the nursing home staff abruptly took the resident off of this medication. Such medication should not be stopped without first consulting a doctor. What is more, this type of medication should not be stopped suddenly. Instead, the patient should gradually be weaned off of it in order to prevent future seizures. The abrupt stop to this medication resulted in more seizures for the resident.

Ultimately, the staff failed to properly administer and refill this medication, resulting in further seizure issues. As a result, the home was in violation of the Public Health Code and received a fine of $3,480.

Choosing a Home

As you can see, the Watrous Nursing Home offers many services and resources for the elderly. However, staff members have also had issues with proper medication that resulted in problems for a resident as well as a fine in recent years. All of this information should be taken into consideration before you decide that the Watrous Nursing Home is the correct option for your loved one.
