Choosing a nursing home for an elderly loved one is a big step for your entire family. You want to make an informed decision, and you want to make the right decision for your loved one. If you are looking for a nursing home in New Haven County, you might come across The Curtis Home. The Curtis Home, located in Meriden, Connecticut, offers many different kinds of services for the elderly. But, before deciding on any home, it is important to do your research. On this page, I will discuss both the pros and the cons of this nursing home so that you can make the best decision for your family.

About the Facility

The Curtis Home is a non-profit skilled nursing and rehabilitation center offering specialized care for those in the Cheshire, Wallingford, and Meriden area. The facility has 60 beds for long term residents.

The Curtis Home has a long history of helping people. It was opened in 1884 as a place to care for orphans and widows. Now, it helps adults live as independently as they can.

The facility offers both long term and short term care, rehabilitative services, respite care, hospice care, and more.

The Drawbacks: Recent Nursing Home Violations

In 2018, The Curtis Home received a violation. In the summer of 2017, one resident of the home assaulted another with a wheelchair foot pedal. The victim was severely injured, suffering a nasal fracture and serious head wounds.

It was determined that the home did not provide adequate safety to ensure that the first resident would not harm the second. In addition, after discovering the wounds, the staff did not take proper steps to get the victim help.

This issue resulted in a violation of Connecticut State Agencies Public Health Code Section 19-13-D8t (m)(n) and/or Connecticut General Statutes 19a-5272-1 and/or 19a-5272-2. This was a Class B violation which resulted in a $3,000.

Types of Care

Despite this violation, The Curtis Home does offer many types of care and services. Common services include:

  • Assistance from skilled nurses.
  • Rehabilitation to recover from an injury or illness.
