What to Watch Out For

While Marlborough Health and Rehabilitation Center boasts great amenities, services, and resources for residents, that is not to say that the facility is without problems. In 2018, the facility received a violation and was fined due to an incident with a resident.

In late 2017, a resident sustained a fracture of the distal femur. This resident had difficulty walking and getting up. As a result, their care plan instructed that they should be moved with the help of a machine called a Hoyer lift, as well as the assistance of two staff members. These precautions were necessary to prevent slips and falls.

Upon investigation, it was determined that the resident sustained a fractured femur in relation to an incident in which a resident attempted to lift and move the resident on their own (the care plan specifies that two residents are required for this job). A staff member could not find someone available to help with the transfer, so they attempted it themselves. During the transfer, the resident’s leg swung around and hit the dresser, causing the injury.

The resident in question was terminated because they failed to follow protocol. However, the facility was fined $3,270 for a Class B violation of Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies.

Finding a Home

As you can see, the Marlborough Health and Rehabilitation Center has its benefits and drawbacks. While a resident was seriously injured, the home still provides many amenities for their residents. It is up to your family to decide if this facility or another one is the right fit for your loved one. For further assistance with this process, contact our office.
