Are you searching in New Haven County for a health care center for an elderly loved one? If so, you might be considering the Branford Hills Health Care Center, located in Branford, Connecticut.

Before you make a decision about a health care center, you should do some research. Make sure that the facility offers the kinds of resources and care that your loved one needs. It is also a good idea to familiarize yourself with any violations that the facility has received in recent years. I will provide this information on this page.

Violations

Unfortunately, the Branford Hills Health Care Center did receive a class B violation in 2017. This violation was against the Public Health Code Section 19-13-D8t (m)(2)(A) and resulted in a $3,000 fine for the health care center.

This was a very serious violation. A schizophrenic resident with a depressive disorder was left unattended in their room. A staff member found the resident unresponsive with a plastic bag tied over their head. The resident had no pulse. 9-11 was contacted and the police informed the staff to remove the bag and administer CPR immediately. The staff failed to do this out of shock and uncertainty.

The violation occurred because the staff failed to properly monitor the resident. On top of that, they did not follow the proper protocol once they discovered the issue. The staff did not administer CPR or call for a crash cart.
