Nursing Home Violation
Nursing homes are monitored to make sure that they are complying with Connecticut General Statutes and the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies. When homes violate the statutes, they are subject to fines. Amberwoods of Farmington received a fine in 2018 for an issue which occurred at the beginning of that year.
One resident with known behavioral issues, depression, and dementia had an issue at the facility. They started grabbing knives from carts and banging them against the walls. No intervention took place for weeks. Finally, the facility intervened by searching the resident’s room for utensils. This resident continued to be found with knives and other potential weapons, even after the intervention took place.
This resident entered another resident’s room and threatened them with the knife. A similar incident occurred once again, where the first resident threatened the second with a knife, with the first resident insinuating that they would slit the other resident’s throat and drink their blood.
This issue resulted in a fine to the facility of $9,060 due to lack of safety initiatives implemented by Amberwoods at Farmington. The resident continued to obtain knives and threaten another resident in the facility.
